The Death index 1853 June Quarter 10b, 47 at Temperance Row, for Bertha Spens, age 31, which could place her birth in 1822. This child is listed as Gilchrist, not Bertha,in a notebook kept by her father, James Spens. There is no Bertha Spence/Spens in the OPR; The cemetery record states "Bartha" was of Temperance Row, Shieldfield, age 31, daughter of Mr. James Spens, Newcastle Weekly Chronicle, May 27, 1853 Friday, buried in unconcertrated ground, Ward 11, Section 2E, Grave 3, Jesmond General Cemetery, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.
