Ann's birthdate is taken from the Moumental Inscription at Puttenham
Churchyard. It reads:-
' In memory of Ann the wife of Wm. Searle who died July 20 1791.
Aged 75 Years'
The 5 on 75 is not entirely clear. It has been transcribed as reading 78.
Please note I don't agree with the transcription here. Visited the churchyard
in December 1990 to check my reading. The gravestones at Puttenham for William
and Ann Searle are joined as a double stone. A William Searle who died in 1803
aged 60 is buried next to them. The similar design and proximity of the
monuments would suggest that they had had been purchased at a similar time by
a similar member of the family. It would therefore suggest that they were also
related.
A William Searle and Ann Netley were married in St Nicholas Church Compton on 30
May 1737. Two children are recorded as born to a William and Ann Searle. James
was baptised on 6 march 1741 and John on 7 July 1746, both at Compton.As yet
there is no record of William's or Ann's birth nor of any further issue in
Compton.
