bullet  General Notes:

Stella Tinline notes: believes Robert died in 1919. His daughter (Harriet) said that he went to school on a pony, was remembered as being big and strong, and may have been a foreman in shipbuilding. Apparently he took gangs of men to work in Bristol. In 1915 he had an accident (causing a blood clot on the brain) and was an invalid for 4 years before dying.

bullet  Research Notes:

Linda Kelsey notes:
There was no Station Hotel by 1881. In 1871 Robert was aged 9
and living with his parents at the Station Hotel. It may have been
re-named Dock House Inn by 1881.

On Robert's wedding certificate (23/2/1884) it gives his father's name
as Henry William. His occupation could be "Rivetter" (hard to read)
On the 1871 census Henry William is also mentioned.
His name is missing on the 1881 census as he died in 1872. Margaret
Bell was born in Newcastle (census data, 1891) and this is why I have
researched all other Newcastle wards for the same year.

From 1891 census I have Robert (29) and Margaret (23) living at 37
Cannon Street Elswick, South Newcastle. They have their two oldest
children (of 21) James (5) and Catherine (2). This ties up with other
family stories that Margaret was indeed 16 when she married but perhaps
not pregnant- she may have lost the child. Other interests are that the
Purvis family live around the corner- they married Tinlines.

Note that marriage certificate says Margaret was 19 when she married
